The characteristics and types of fiber optic temperature sensors
Electromagnetic insulation performance is good, it is resistant to high voltage, corrosion, and high temperature, and can be used in harsh conditions such as strong electromagnetic fields and radiation. At the same time, fiber optic sensors have high sensitivity, large dynamic range, good flexibility, and flexible configuration, suitable for various special occasions. Currently, fiber optic temperature sensors can be divided into two types: sensing type, fiber optic is both a light transmitting medium and a temperature sensitive medium, also known as functionality. The other type is a light transmitting type, fiber optic is only used as a light transmitting medium, and the temperature sensitive medium is made of other temperature sensing materials. Currently, most practical fiber optic sensors belong to the latter category.
Fiber optic temperature measurement in special application environments
Temperature is one of the most important measurement parameters in measurement science and industrial process control. Due to the continuous expansion of the application range of temperature measurement, innovation, research, and development in temperature monitoring have been ongoing. These measurement environments pose various requirements for accurate temperature measurement, such as the target being measured being extremely harmful, moving, difficult to approach, or even inaccessible to the probe and target, or the presence of electromagnetic noise interference. Therefore, we need to seek new temperature sensors with advantages such as high reliability, good insulation performance, resistance to electromagnetic interference, good repeatability, fast response speed, small size, and low cost. For such requirements, thermocouples and electric temperature regulators with electrical characteristic temperature measurement devices are not entirely suitable.
The advantages of fiber optic temperature measurement
Due to the good insulation and high temperature resistance of optical fibers, fluorescent fiber optic sensors can work in harsh environments with strong electromagnetic fields, high temperatures, corrosion, high pressures, and explosive hazards. They can achieve non-contact measurement and are a new type of temperature sensor with advantages such as fast non response speed to the tested object, small size, and low cost. For such requirements, thermocouples and electric temperature regulators with electrical characteristic temperature measurement devices are not entirely suitable. Due to its good insulation and high temperature resistance, fluorescent fiber optic sensors can operate in harsh environments with strong electromagnetic fields, high temperatures, corrosion, high pressures, and explosive hazards, enabling contact measurement.
Temperature measurement of high-voltage switchgear
Temperature change is a gradual process. If abnormal temperature changes can be detected and handled correctly before they have an impact on the operation of the high-voltage switchgear, it can avoid power outages or even fire accidents caused by the heating of the high-voltage switchgear. It can be seen that real-time temperature monitoring of high-voltage switchgear is very important.
Composition and working principle of a fluorescent fiber optic temperature measurement and fire monitoring system
The fluorescence fiber optic thermometer consists of a display instrument, a temperature demodulator, and a fluorescence fiber optic sensing probe. The measuring point is the static contact of the high-voltage switchgear. After installing the fiber optic probe on the static contact of the switchgear, the temperature information is transmitted through the fiber optic to the demodulator for calculation, and a display function is provided to achieve online temperature monitoring of the switchgear contacts.
The fluorescence fiber optic temperature measurement and fire monitoring system has real-time monitoring function. Once the temperature at the monitoring point of the switchgear is too high, it can identify and immediately alarm, leaving enough time for staff to take measures to reduce the temperature of the switchgear, ensure the normal operation of power production, avoid fire accidents and large-scale power outages, and extend the service life of the switchgear.
The fluorescence fiber optic thermometer has significantly improved the performance level of fire detection and alarm in switchgear, effectively overcoming the difficulty of real-time and accurate temperature measurement during the operation of switchgear, and greatly enhancing the application of this technology to improve fire warning and eliminate fire hazards. At the same time, the fluorescent fiber optic temperature measurement and fire monitoring system can also be applied to other fire hazard areas that require real-time monitoring of temperature changes, in order to achieve real-time fire warning and improve the fire prevention and control capabilities of the places.
